JAA’s Objectives

  • National minimum standards to be set up outlining how victims’ families should be supported by the Criminal Justice System following an acquittal of a murder charge.
  • The law to be changed to create an appeals procedure or judicial review (as for defendants found guilty).
  • The law to be changed so that a ‘not decided’ verdict is returned when either the jury cannot agree or the trial cannot continue for technical reasons. (Currently the verdict would be ‘not guilty’).
  • Legal advice to be available for victims’ families.
